Is there a daytime music class for homeschool families in Springfield?

Yes. Children's Music Academy runs a weekday daytime class for homeschool families. It is the same CMA curriculum as every other class, placed by your child's age, with you in the room. It fits a homeschool day instead of fighting it.

Taught by someone who homeschools

Kelley Goodwyn owns Children's Music Academy and taught here for 14 years before that. She also homeschools, has graduated three of her six sons, and helps lead her homeschool co-op. She knows what a homeschool week looks like, which is why this class meets during the day, counts as a real music curriculum rather than an enrichment hour, and sends you home with home fun you can fold into the week.

About · Meet the teachers

A full music curriculum, in the daytime

The keyboard is home base. Around it your child sings, keeps rhythm on percussion, reads notes, trains the ear, composes, plays in an ensemble, and picks up recorder and guitar as the course goes on. Children are placed in the course for their age, Pre-Junior at 3, Junior for pre-K and kindergarten ages, Intermediate for 1st and 2nd grade ages, and progress through it to graduation like every other CMA student.

For a music credit

A structured, multiyear curriculum with theory, reading, ear training and performance. Plenty to document.

For a co-op

Families from the same co-op often come together, so children learn alongside friends and parents share the drive.

For siblings

Each child is placed by age. Ask us how two children of different ages fit into the same visit.

What you do

You take part, as in every CMA class. You learn the same material as your child, which is useful when you are also the one teaching at home the rest of the week.

Questions about the homeschool class

What day and time does the homeschool class meet?

It meets on a weekday during the day. The current day, time and openings are shown above when they are set, and the quickest answer is a call to (417) 425-4618.

What ages?

Ages 3 to 9, the same as every CMA class, and each child is placed in the course for their age.

Can my younger child come along?

Siblings in the room tend to distract the class, so we ask that only the enrolled child and the parent attend. Many homeschool families swap sibling care with each other on class day. Ask us; we can often introduce you to a family that does.

Is this a real curriculum or an activity hour?

A real curriculum. The homeschool class follows the same multiyear CMA courses, with the same graduation at the end.

What does it cost?

The same tuition structure as every CMA class: a one time registration fee for materials, then monthly tuition across the school year. See Tuition.

“I wish all education could be like Children's Music Academy where my three children have felt special, successful, and competent. Music is not a frill, it's one of the basics that should be included in a child's life.”
