Who will be teaching my child?

Every CMA class is taught by a trained musician who teaches the same curriculum the same way, so your child's class feels the same whoever is at the front of the room. Here is who you will meet.

Kelley Goodwyn, owner and teacher at Children's Music Academy of Springfield.

Kelley Goodwyn

Owner and teacher

Kelley taught at Children's Music Academy for 14 years before she became its owner. She graduated from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin with a degree in Music and Sociology, and sang in all three of the university's choirs: chamber choir, concert chorale, and show choir. Outside the studio, Kelley homeschools and helps lead her homeschool co-op. She has graduated three of her six sons and enjoys every bit of time she gets with her family. One parent's review on our homepage thanks her daughter's "incredible music teacher, Mrs. Goodwyn." That teacher now runs the studio, and still teaches in it.

Amy McGee

Teacher

Amy McGee teaches at Children's Music Academy and has taught piano for decades. She graduated from the Milwaukee High School for the Arts and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Brigham Young University, and she is a member of the Music Teachers National Association. Amy and her husband, Rick, are the parents of seven grown children and a growing number of grandchildren. She believes in the creative curriculum at CMA and loves the journey each class takes together.

Donna Carlin

Teacher

Donna Carlin has taught music for 40 years, 26 of them at Children's Music Academy. She graduated from John Brown University with a degree in Music Education and taught in a public school in Dallas before she found CMA in Denver, Colorado, and fell in love with the way it matched her love of music and of children. Outside the classroom Donna plays piano and sings, and she enjoys bicycling, floating and the outdoors in Missouri. Her greatest joy as a teacher is watching a child's eyes light up when a hard concept finally clicks.

Izumi Loomis

Teacher

Izumi Loomis teaches at Children's Music Academy. She took CMA group classes herself in Japan through Yamaha, after years of playing piano and other instruments through school, and the piano has stayed at the center of her life since. Playing keeps her energized, and she brings that energy into the classroom.

Kristen Cornelius

Teacher

Kristen Cornelius teaches at Children's Music Academy and loves being back in a classroom. She studied music education at Augsburg College in Minneapolis and taught band for several years before stepping away to raise her family. She now teaches band at Springfield Lutheran Schools as well. Music has been part of her life since childhood, through piano, flute and choirs, and her husband is a music teacher too.

Peg LePage

Teacher

Peg LePage has taught at Children's Music Academy for more than a decade. She has sung in choirs for as long as she can remember, plays guitar, and leads music outside the studio as well. One of her greatest joys is sharing music with her own children and watching their bands perform. Her love of music and of children is why she teaches here.

One curriculum, one way of teaching

Every CMA teacher teaches the Children's Music Academy curriculum: keyboard first, singing, rhythm, reading, ear training, composition, ensemble, recorder, guitar and percussion, in small groups, with a parent in the room. The warmth is the same in every room, and so is the standard.
